Turnbull Septs and Associated Families

In Feudal Scotland, a sept is often a smaller family that comes under the protection of a larger clan in offer of service (usually military) to the Chief.

Associated families are those families who, in some way bear an association, though there may not be a direct link as such. One such example would be the French Tournebu, a powerful 11th Century family whose relationship with Turnbull is nothing more than a similar name.
